Available Position: 0.5 Carpentry Instructor

Start Date: October 1, 2019

Available Positions: Carpentry Instructor (Half Time, Term One Year)

Reporting the Principal of Echo Dene School the successful candidate will work as part of the high school teaching team. The teacher will be responsible for the delivery of high school Carpentry/Shop courses.  The shop teacher must be skilled and experienced, with an in dept knowledge in all aspects of carpentry and construction studies.

Qualifications:

The applicant:

  • Must hold, or be eligible for a N.W.T. Professional Teaching Certificate;
  • Must  be a Red Seal carpenter or in the final year of accreditation.  Related experience is preferred;
  • Must have knowledge of high school curriculum;
  • Must have knowledge of the Northwest Territories Codes and Occupational Health and Safety regulations and legislation, regulations governing Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TGD);
  • Knowledge of instructional techniques and inventory control principles and practices;
  • Should have training and teaching experience in a cross-cultural, multi-level classroom situations.

DEH GAH ELEMENTARY & SECONDARY SCHOOL
FORT PROVIDENCE, NT

Deh Gah Elementary and Secondary School in Fort Providence offers a diverse range of programs to 100 students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade twelve. The school has very close ties to its community and a strong on-the-land program. An immersion language program is offered to students in JK to Grade three.

Available Position: Program Support Teacher

TERM 2019/2020 (one year)

The Program Support Teacher is a team leader who provides the central in-school support for teachers with respect to programming for all students under the guidelines of Inclusive Schooling. The professional educator should have a repertoire of instructional, assessment, and behavioural techniques to assist teachers in meeting the diverse needs of all students. S/He should be prepared to facilitate staff training, staff and parent meetings and to co-teach in various classroom settings. H/She must be an Educational Team Player.

Qualifications:

• Must have a Bachelor degree in education and hold or be eligible for a N.W.T Professional Teaching Certificate;
• Must have five years demonstrated successful teaching experience at the JK to 12 level;
• Must have education, training and/or experience in the area of inclusion, assessment and support, literacy and numeracy, differentiated instruction, self regulation and Daily 5, flexible instructional strategies and experience with co-teaching.
• Must have understanding of the inclusionary policies in the NWT;
• Should have direct experience with NWT/Alberta curricula;
• Should demonstrate ability to plan and provide programs and support that reflect inclusion in multi-level classrooms;
• Should have direct experience with NWT curricula at the Junior Kindergarten to grade twelve level;
• Should have direct experience with the development of Student Support Plans and Individualized Education Plans;
• Should have training and experience in a cross-cultural, classroom situation;
• Should demonstrate ability to plan and provide programs and supports that reflect inclusion in multi-level classrooms;
• Should demonstrate the ability to lead training workshops for staff;
